Our Story

Portland Fiction Project is a collaborative writing project that began in 2006. The participating writers committed to writing and workshopping new short stories on a weekly basis using a prompt-based writing process. The stories produced together for each prompt were published in our online publication at portlandfiction.net. The group met regularly until 2010 and has performed together at readings around Portland.

In the fall of 2010 and spring of 2011, Portland Fiction Project worked on two projects that focused on social issues, using the same prompt-based weekly writing and workshopping process. The work produced in these workshops were used to create benefit readings to raise money for charities that deal with the issues the work focused on, as well as to help explore the issue being addressed.

Currently, we are working on a project that uses works of visual art as the prompts for stories in a collaboration with the Benjamin Benjamin Gallery of NW Portland.

Our goal is to continue to work on projects with the intention of creating quality writing while experimenting with the medium of the short story.
