The Portland Fiction Project is a collaborative writing project that began in 2006. The participating writers committed to writing and workshopping new short stories on a weekly basis using a prompt-based writing process. The stories produced together for each prompt were published in our online publication at portlandfiction.net. The group met regularly until 2010 and has performed together at readings around Portland.

In the past year, The Portland Fiction Project has worked on two projects that focused on social issues, using the same prompt-based weekly writing and workshopping process. The work produced in these workshops were used to create benefit readings to raise money for charities that deal with the issues the work focused on, as well as to help explore the issue being addressed.

We will continue to work on projects with the intention of creating quality writing while experimenting with the medium of the short story.
